Sew Crafty Sunday: Beachy Bathroom

Our front bathroom has never really gotten the attention it deserved. I've been wanting to paint it, but abhor painting small spaces with tons of edges. I bought a purple, vintage chalkware fish awhile ago and have recently decided to decorate revolving around that little fish. I sewed some ocean themed fabric onto some towels, put up a children's book illustration, bought a beta, and dug out all the shells I could find. My two favorite additions came just last weekend. Dan found these vintage paint by numbers in Out of Vogue (a vintage shop in downtown Fullerton) and I saw a shell wreath for $45 in a cute boutique, and decided to make my own. It cost me only $5. I used shells I had, some plaster of paris, and I used a Michaels coupon to buy the wreath form. I am so happy with how the bathroom has turned out, that I don't think I have to paint after all!

Wee-Ones Wed: Let It Snow

As most of you know, my parents have a place in Big Bear that we love to visit. We have so much fun there. After all the recent rain (and hail), Lilly asked if we could go to Big Bear and see if her snowman melted. We definitely hope to get there soon... and thanks for Iris' snow suit, Julie!!

Wee- One Wednesday: Clean Teeth

Lilly had her first teeth cleaning last month. We took her in a few weeks before, so she could watch Dan. She thought looking in her Daddy's mouth was the coolest thing! When it was her turn, she told the hygienist, "You're doing a great job!"

Misc. Monday: Five Years

Dan and I went to Las Vegas for our five year anniversary. It was our first time going together and we had so much fun. We decided to fly in order to not waste valuable babysitting time. My mom kindly volunteered to watch the girls here, and even had dinner ready for us when we arrived home. Gotta love her! Penny even loaned me some fancy dresses.
Dan sent me the most beautiful flowers before we left filled with red roses, white iris', and stargazer lilies and he surprised me while we were there with a gorgeous anniversary band filled with little diamonds. It matches my wedding band perfectly!
We ate at the best restaurants (Mon Ami Gabi, Olives, and Bouchon)and went to the Beatles LOVE show at the Mirage. It was amazing! We ate raw beef over poletta and baby greens, covered with shredded Parmesan cheese (surprisingly fantastic), yummy steak with the best Bearnaise sauce I have ever had, bread pudding inspired apple french toast, and chicken with bacon chive waffles with vanilla infused butter. We also ordered 3 desserts at one time because we couldn't decide. There was an amazing bakery outside the Mandarin Oriental (we stayed in the one in San Fran for our honeymoon) where we had vanilla custard covered in a nest of spun sugar; we even took a red velvet cupcake back to our hotel from there. Seriously, my taste buds are so sad to come back home! We are so blessed, refreshed, and in love!!

Wee-Ones Wed.: Preschool

Well, Lilly is officially a preschooler! We read the book, "The Kissing Hand" the night before her and we both wore kissing hand stickers to school the next day. It's such a sweet book and concept, except I'm sure I needed it more than she did. Mommy cried and Lilly said, "Good bye, Mommy" with a big hug!
Her first day was last Wednesday and when we asked her if she liked it, she said she wanted to go there "forever and ever, ever, ever, ever..." We went out to dinner to celebrate and in the car I asked her if she got to sing any songs. She said she missed singing time because she got a time out. She went on to tell us that she kicked a girl. I told her that we never hurt people and if she is too naughty there, they won't let her come back. I asked he if she would kick anyone again and she replied, Heavens, no!" Friday night, after her second day, she asked me what the word warning means... and today there was no time out and no warning, so I guess she is learning something! I just can't get over how independent she is becoming. She tells anyone who will listen that she can drink out of a cup with no lid on it and get dressed by herself. Next, I suppose she'll be driving!

Misc. Monday: Good Friend

Did you notice my new (finally) blog header? Lilies and Iris', could it be more perfect?? It was custom made by my good friend Amy, who not only is very talented, but very pregnant. I asked her awhile back if she would help me with it, and today it was sent to my inbox. What a surprise! P.S. She also brought us some yummy chocolate cupcakes today, which makes her the most ambitious 38 week pregnant lady I know. Thank you, Amy!

Wee-One Wednesday: Happy Birthday, Jesus!

We had the best Christmas ever over here at the Michael home. Lilly sang Happy Birthday to Jesus, enjoyed Buddy-her elf on the shelf, believed Santa left her gifts, and was grateful for everything. She had just as much enthusiasm for an umbrella and slippers, as she did for shirts and Minnie hats. Baby Iris was the first one up Christmas morning so she got to open her first present alone, while the coffee cake was baking. Her favorites this year included bows and boxes. Dan and I saw both our siblings this year and all our parents. Do you remember the horse G.ma & G.pa got Lilly last year? Check out the hat they got her this year. Good thing it all stay stays at their house. What wonderful memories!

Misc. Monday: Christmas Eve

We spent Christmas Eve with Grammy, Papa, Aunt Abby, Uncle Ryan, and Cousin Michael. We ate a traditional Christmas dinner, played, and opened presents. When we got back home, the girls opened their Christmas pajamas from Mom and Dad, and a Little People nativity to share. my mom always gave us new PJs on Christmas Eve, so that it definitely something that is going to continue at our house. We even left out milk and cookies for Santa, but Lilly ate one. She was so sure he'd want to share with her!

Sew Crafty Saturday: Sew Christmas

First, I want to tell you that there is a new Wednesday post below that for some reason appeared after our dinner fiasco and I could not move it for some reason. Secondly, I want to tell you what a wonderful Christmas we had this year. It lasted more than three days and was filled with yummy food, happy family, great music, and thoughtful gifts. It wouldn't be a "sew crafty Saturday" if I didn't tell you what I made for the girls to wear. I made them matching skirts with ricrac trim that I plan on converting into Christmas cookie aprons for next year. Dan even got me a few sewing items, some Gingher shears, a sewing calendar, and the book, Sewing by the Yard. I'm sew excited!!
