Summertime!

Our first official week of summer was spent going to the beach (so much more fun than I expected), getting ice cream from the ice cream truck (for the first time), vacation Bible school (with friends), National Donut day (thanks, Grammy), painting the front door (planning on a new color already), Lilly's new haircut (good job, Stev), Iris having private swim lessons (she is a little fish now), Henry's first hot wheels track (who knew they were so fun?), and making a summer daily checklist (it's working beautifully)!

Mini Drawing Quilt

Iris asked me to make a doll out of her drawing. It was such a sweet request, and adorable piece of art that I asked her if I could make a doll quilt instead. I figured it might last longer that way. I went over her drawing with a sharpie marker, then traced it onto some muslin, and embroidered it with red thread. Then I pieced together a tiny quilt. It was the perfect size for me to try free-hand sewing or "stippling" on my machine. I love how it turned out. Lilly has me making her one now, and Dan encouraged me to enter it into the OC fair where he entered a guitar he is building. It had been a long time since I did anything creative, and I really appreciate my girls for making requests and encouraging me to get crafty!

Memorial Day

Memorial Day was spent with a good, old-fashioned block party. We got a permit, and the street was closed. Neighborhood kids came over in the morning to decorate their bikes, and the annual parade to kick off the party started at 2pm. Many games were played, tons of food was eaten, and a good time was had by all. We feel very blessed to live on one of the best streets in Fullerton!
